FFS welcomes reports on research of fauna, ecology and taxonomy, species lists, catalogues, identification keys, bionomy observations, zoogeography of fauna in the Carpathian and Pannonian regions.

FFS provides:
- Open-access—freely accessible online
- Fast publication times—generally, all contributions are published within one month when accepted by the editorial board
- Peer review by experts, practicing researchers

Editorial board consists of representatives of diverse institutions and research fields in zoology and quality of the journal is supervised by the International Advisory Board

FFS is published by Faunima, Trnavská 15, Bratislava, Slovakia

FFS will peer-review all submissions and publish all papers that are judged to be sound with the journal requirements. Mostly two referees revue each artcicle.

Each submission to FFS passes through a strict quality control and peer-review evaluation process before accepting.

Criteria for publication in FFS are as follows:
- The study presents the results of primary scientific research or is oriented for such a research or provides the nature protection with scientifica arguments
- Results reported have not been published elsewhere
- Experiments, statistics, and other analyses are performed to a high technical standard and are described in sufficient detail
- Conclusions are presented in an appropriate fashion and are supported by the data
- The article is presented in an intelligible fashion and is written in standard English, or in Slovak or Czech languages with English abstract.

Once the manuscript has passed quality control, it is assigned to a editor of journal, who takes responsibility for the submission. The Editor is responsible for conducting the peer-review process and for making a decision to accept, invite revision of, or reject the article.

Most articles accepted for publication are being sent for review by external experts, small portion are peer reviewed by the editors themselves (in consultation with other members of the Editorial Board) when they are sufficiently expert in the field.

Principally, all accepted articles are peer-reviewed by at least two experts (by editor and by external peer reviewer).

Both scientific and technical standards of FFS are high.

Scientific standards:
Published articles are real contribution to knowledge of biodiversity, taxonomy or ecology of fauna; described Material and Methods allow repeatability. Descriptions in the Results are sound, complete and appropriate, that rules of the International Code of Nomenclature are followed, locations of type material (including coordinates) of new taxa are given, etc. All papers end with a discussion, even a short one, clearly outlining the (international) relevance of the work presented.

Technical standards:
All titles, weywords and abstracts of articles must be written in English, the main text should be in English, Slovak or Czech languages. Authors can use their own style, as long as the manuscript in linguistically correct. Illustrations must be of high quality and very detailed.
