New records of Pallopteridae (Diptera) from the Czech Republic

First records of the boreo-montane species Toxoneura venusta (Loew, 1858) from the Czech Republic (Bohemia) are presented.

Pallopteridae, faunistics, distribution, new records, Czech Republic.

During the examination of the material of Pallopteridae deposited in the collection of the senior author and in the Silesian Museum, Opava, two specimens of a species formerly unknown from the Czech Republic have been revealed:

Toxoneura venusta (Loew, 1858) Czech Republic: Bohemia mer., Šumava Mts, Malá Niva (7048), 48°54´35´´N, 13°49´21´´E, 750 m, spruce wood, 20.7.–21.8.1999, 1♀, M. Barták et Š. Kubík leg., V. Martinek det., M. Barták coll.; Bohemia or., Orlické hory Mts, Julinčino údolí (valley) (5764), sweeping undergrowth of deciduous forest, 30.7.1992, 1♂, J. Roháček leg. et det., Silesian Museum, Opava coll.

This rare species has hitherto been recorded from Austria, Germany, Finland, France, Italy, Norway, Poland, Romania, NW Russia, Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland. In Slovakia it is only known from the Bukovské vrchy Mts (Martinek 1994; Roháček 1995). The species seems to be restricted to mountains in Central and South Europe and, therefore, it is to be considered a boreo-montane geoelement in the European fauna.
