First record of a termophilous sepsid species Sepsis barbata Becker, 1907 from the Czech Republic (Bohemia) is presented.

Key words

Sepsidae, faunistics, distribution, new record, Czech Republic.

During the field excursion to southern Bohemia in autumn, 2007, a single specimen of a species formerly unknown from the Czech Republic has been revealed:

Sepsis barbata Becker, 1907

Czech Republic, Bohemia mer., Vlkov nad Lužnicí, near pond, sweeping, 410 m, 49°08´59´´N, 14°42´59´´E, 23.IX.2007, 1 ♂, Barták leg., det. et coll. A widely distributed, South Palaearctic and Oriental species (Pont & Meier 2002). This species is not rare in the south Palaearctic region. Recorded from Slovakia by Barták et al. (1997). This is the first record from the Czech Republic, supporting the hypothesis that the species is extending its range northwards (Barták et al. 1997).
