New records of Chloropidae (Diptera) from the Czech Republic and Slovakia

Abstract

Altogether 3 species of Chloropidae (Diptera) are recorded from the Czech Republic (2) and Slovakia (1): 1 species is new records for the Czech Republic, 1 for Bohemia and 1 for the fauna of the Slovak Republic. The most interesting finding is Thaumatomyia montana (Becker, 1916).

Survey of species

Nomenclature and distribution follow Nartshuk (2007) and Kubík (2006). Dicraeus (Paroedesiella) styriacus (Strobl, 1898) is deposited in the collections of the Silesian Museum Opava. Thaumatomyia montana (Becker, 1916) and Siphunculina quinquangula (Loew, 1873) are deposited in the collections of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague.

CZ: Krkonoše, Úpa, peat-bog, 1407 m, MT, 5.–14.VI.2007, 1, leg Vaněk. Rare species, known only from Italian mainland.
First record from Czech Republic.

Oscinellinae

Dicraeus (Paroedesiella) styriacus (Strobl, 1898)
SK: Lučenec env. Slovenská samota, sweeping udergrovth of steppe forest, 15.V.2002, 4
, 1, leg. Roháček.
The species is distributed in Europe: Austria, Great Britain, Czech Republic, Danish mainland, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italian mainland, Latvia, Poland, Russia Central, Russia Northwest, Russia South, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland and The Netherlands.
First record from the Slovak Republic.

Siphunculina quinquangula (Loew, 1873)
CZ: Čertova voda right Labe shore, 130 m, MT, meat baited, 21.V.2009, 1
, leg Barták.
A rarely recorded but probably widespread species known from Austria, Czech Republic (Moravia), Germany, Hungary, Italian mainland, Latvia, Poland, Romania, south of Russia and Ukraine.
First record from Bohemia.
