New records of Limoniidae, Pediciidae and Tipulidae (Diptera) from the Czech Republic and Slovakia

Abstract

Primary collection data are given for 17 species of Limoniidae, Pediciidae and Tipulidae to be included in a new version of the Checklist of Diptera of the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Introduction

In the present paper, findings of 17 species of the families Limoniidae, Pediciidae and Tipulidae are published, representing the first records for the Czech Republic and/or Slovakia, or the two main regions of the Czech Republic, Bohemia and Moravia. The new records will be included in the second electronic version of the Checklist of Diptera of the Czech Republic and Slovakia, now in preparation. Classification, nomenclature and distribution for individual species are given as summarized by Oosterbroek (2009).

LIMONIIDAE

Ellipteroides (Protogonomyia) alboscutellatus (von Roser, 1840)

Widely distributed in Europe except for the north, including Czech Republic (Moravia) and Slovakia; Morocco, Lebanon. First record from Bohemia.

Distribution: Described from Transcaucasia (Azerbaijan, Georgia); also known from Iran and Morocco. In Europe, only recently distinguished from closely related G. (G.) tenella for Lithuania (Podenas & Visarčuk 2006) and Macedonia (Starý & Oosterbroek 2008). First records from Czech Republic and Slovakia; sometimes syntopic with G. (G.) tenella (which see below).

Widely distributed in Europe; ?Morocco, ?Algeria. Possibly confused with G. (G.) subtenella under some records. Confirmed for Czech Republic (both Bohemia and Moravia) and Slovakia.

Distribution: Scattered records from Europe, including Czech Republic (Moravia) and Slovakia. First record from Bohemia.

Dicranomyia (Dicranomyia) luteipennis Goetghebuer in Goetghebuer et Tonnoir, 1920

Bohemia mer.: Loučovice (distr. Český Krumlov) (7351), 20.6.2007, 1 , J. Máca leg., J. Starý det. et coll.

Distribution: Recently revised and redescribed (Starý 2009) and reliably only known from Belgium, Czech Republic (Moravia) and Slovakia, with questionable records from Germany, Italy, Macedonia and Romania. First record from Bohemia.

Distribution: Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Netherlands, Romania, Spain. First record from Czech Republic.

Metalimnobia (Metalimnobia) charlesi Salmela et Starý, 2009

Distribution: Recently described from Finland, Slovakia and Sweden (Salmela & Starý 2009). First record from Czech Republic.

Rhipidia (Rhipidia) uniseriata Schiner, 1864

Widely distributed in Europe, including Czech Republic (Moravia) and Slovakia, ranging as far east as Mongolia and Russian Far East. First record from Bohemia.

Tipula (Yamatotipula) afriberia italia Theowald, Dufour et Oosterbroek, 1982

Moravia bor.: Vyšní Lhoty nr. Frýdek–Místek (6376), Morávka shores, 30.5.1996, 1 , 19.6.1996, 1 , J. Starý leg., J. Martinovský det. (confirmed by P. Oosterbroek), J. Starý coll. (numerous specimens from the same locality, J. Martinovský leg., in coll. Slezské zemské muzeum, Opava).

Distribution: Austria, France, Italy (incl. Sardinia and Sicily), Portugal, Slovenia, Spain (north), Switzerland; nominotypical subspecies known from Spain (south); Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia. First record from Czech Republic.

Widely distributed in Europe, including Czech Republic (Moravia) and Slovakia. First records from Bohemia.

Ctenophora (Ctenophora) nigriceps (Tjeder, 1949)

Slovakia centr.: Poľana Mts, Kyslinky (7382), Hučava valley, 600–700 m, 16.5.2008, 1 , J. Starý leg., det. et coll. Slovakia or.: Slovenský kras, Drienovec (7391), 26.5.1978, 1 , J. Starý leg. et det.; Bukovské vrchy Mts, Ruský Potok (6900), 21.5.1987, 1 , J. Roháček leg., J. Starý det., both in coll. Slezské zemské muzeum, Opava. The latter two specimens previously recorded as Ctenophora (Xiphuromorpha) sibirica Portschinsky, 1873 (cf. Martinovský 1995).

Distribution: In Europe (except for Russia) only known from Finland and Sweden; in Russia (Moscow region, Altay, Far East) and Japan recorded as C. (C.) nigriceps miyamotoi Takahashi, 1960. First records from Slovakia and Central Europe. C. (X.) sibirica is to be excluded from the Slovak fauna.
