Introduction

Altogether almost 500 species of non-biting moth flies are known to occur in Europe and the adjacent island areas (Wagner 2007). The interesting history of the faunistic research of the family Psychodidae in the Czech Republic and Slovakia was presented by all introductions of published several checklists and included numerous literary data (Ježek & Halgoš 1987, Ježek 1997a, 2003 and 2006a). Recently, 172 species are listed in the prepared new version of electronic checklist, and changes are based mainly on this presented paper: 166 in the Czech Republic (139 in Bohemia, 145 in Moravia) and 97 in Slovakia. Since the last electronic version of the checklist (Ježek 2006a), the number of species in the Czech Republic has increased by 18 (12 in Bohemia, 22 in Moravia) and in Slovakia by 8, see as well Ježek & Hájek (2007), Ježek & Omelková (2007), Ježek et al. (2008) and Ježek (in press). The species richness is continually increasing, however, in Slovakia there are fewer species.

Material and methods

The study of Psychodidae was supported above all by the Managements of Protected Landscape Areas and National Parks and during the former period was realized as a part of the State plan of research of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. The material was collected by J. Ježek, P. Chvojka, J. Macek, M. Trýzna and Z. Galková (Malaise traps, light trap and sweep netting). The captured moth flies were preserved in 75% ethanol and only selected specimens were mounted on slides (Canadian Balsam) which are deposited in the Department of Entomology of the National Museum (Natural History), Prague, Czech Republic (=NMPC). All specimens were identified by author. The conservation status of individual species follows the red list by Ježek (2005). The following abbreviations are used: M – male, INS – Inventory Slide Number of the family Psychodidae in NMPC (Diptera collection), NM – National Monument, NNR – National Nature Reserve, NP National Park, NR – Nature Reserve, PLA – Protected Landscape Area, MT – Malaise trap, LT – light trap, CR – critically endangered species, EN – endangered species, NS – newly recorded species not assessed in the red list, however, nationally scarce. All localities are complemented by code of grid mapping according Zelený (1972) and Pruner & Míka (1996). Actualized data on distribution of all recorded species and nomenclature were taken from Ježek (2003, 2004, 2006a), Ježek et al. (2008) and Wagner (1990, 2007).
