Abstract

New records and other interesting findings of shore flies (Ephydridae) from Slovakia are presented here. Two species (Notiphila dorsata Stenhammar, 1844 and Ochthera manicata (Fabricius, 1794)) were reported for a first time from Slovakia and another seven species (Dichaeta caudata (Fallén, 1813), Hydrellia albilabris (Meigen, 1830), Limnellia quadrata (Fallén, 1813), Paracoenia fumosa (Stenhammar, 1844), Parydra (Parydra) aquila (Fallén, 1813), Pelina aenea (Fallén, 1813), and Pelina nitens Loew, 1873) were confirmed from Slovakia by complete and reliable records.

Key words

Ephydridae, new records, Slovakia.

Introduction

The aim of this paper is to present new records and other interesting findings of shore flies (Ephydridae) from Slovakia for the forthcoming edition of the Checklist of Diptera of the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

So far as shore fly faunistics are concerned, the territory of Slovakia have been much less studied in comparison with the territory of the Czech Republic, which is one of the best investigated countries in Europe. First reliable recods from the territory of Slovakia were published by Zatwarnicki (1991, 1996) and Zatwarnicki & Roháček (1995). Previous records cannot be considered as reliable unless a revision of such material has been done (for details see Kubátová-Hiršová 2006a). In 1997, Zatwarnicki published the checklist of Czech and Slovak shore flies. Later the present author recorded new findings of shore flies from the Czech Republic and Slovakia (Kubátová-Hiršová 2006a) and compiled a new edition of the checklist of Czech and Slovak shore flies (Kubátová-Hiršová 2006b).

Two species are firstly recorded from the territory of Slovakia here, and first reliable and completely published records for other seven species are provided.
